Getting There


  • By Air

    • Bangor International Airport (BGR), Bangor ME - Currently served by Northwest Airlines, Delta Airlines, American Airlines, US Airways, and Continental Airlines. Approximately a one hour drive (50 miles) away from Bar Harbor. Visit www.flybangor.com for more information.
    • Portland International Jetport (PWN), Portland ME - Maine’s largest airport, served by all major carriers. Portland is about a 3.25 hour drive (170 miles) from Bar Harbor. It’s a longer drive than from Bangor, but flights to Portland can be substantially cheaper. The drive from Portland it quite easy and, as an added benefit, you can pass by Freeport, ME, home of the original L.L. Bean store!
    • Hancock County and Bar Harbor Airport - Provides daily scheduled airline service to and from Boston. Just 12 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor. Call (207-667-7171) or (800-428-4322) to inquire about ground transportation. Go to their carrier website, Colgan Air, for more information.
    • Rental Cars are available at both airports. Budget and Hertz are available at both. Avis, National, and Alamo are available at BGR only.
    • The Bar Harbor-Bangor Shuttle can get you from the airport to our hotel without a car. Once you are in Bar Harbor, the free Island Explorer Shuttle will take you almost anywhere you want to go in Acadia or on the island.
  • By Land

    • By Car. Follow Interstate 95 North all the way to Bangor, Maine (exit 182-A, route 395). From there, pick up Route 1A to Ellsworth. Follow Route 1A all the way to Route 3, which you will take directly in to Bar Harbor. You will see the Atlantic Oakes on your left before Bar Harbor; if you get to Route 225, you just missed it.     • By Bus - Vermont Transit Lines offers daily service from Boston, Portland, and Bangor to Bar Harbor. For more information, call (800-451-3292) or visit their website.
  • By Sea
    • Cruise - One way to visit Bar Harbor is on one of the over 70 beautiful cruise ships that arrive in Bar Harbor each year. It’ll be a bit tricky, though, due to the way that cruise lines set up their packages.
    • Moorings - if you are interested in sailing to Bar Harbor yourself, please call the Harbormaster’s Office ahead of time at (207-288-5571).
    • Ferry info - “The Cat”, operated by Bay Ferries, makes round-trip voyages Mondays and Tuesdays during the summer from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
