2006 Summer Road Trip
During our first full summer together (in 2001), Heather was a school teacher and Barry was “consulting” (which is to say, taking a long break from work after having sold his first software business). Since we both had the whole summer free we decided to go on a long trip and spend a month kayaking and rock climbing in Ontario. It was great and we promised ourselves we would do it again.
Five years later we hadn’t managed to find the time. Even with Heather having summers off and Barry having a flexible work schedule, every summer something managed to prevent us from going (weddings, family obligations, whatever). In the spring of 2006, we realized that the upcoming summer was basically free and, therefore, a golden opportunity.
We departed on July 21 on what ended up being a five-week, 7,000 mile cross-country driving, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, spelunking, sight-seeing, and picture-taking tour.
